As I said in my bio, I love to teach people that want to learn how to cook. That’s one of the reasons I started Donn’a Kitchen Corner. Most if not all of the articles in this section are for those of you who are new to cooking and want to learn more about how to do it. Cooking can be easy and fun, but you need to know a few things before you get started. One of them are definitions of cooking terms. I just wrote an article with cooking and baking definitions. Take a look at it. You will learn a lot about the different terms that are used in cookbooks and recipes. I also wrote an article about the 21 things you need to start your kitchen. These things are pretty much everything you need to start up a kitchen to do just about anything you want to cook or bake. Then I wrote an article about how to buy dishes, silverware, glassware and how to set a proper table. You not only need to know how to prepare food, but how to present it to be eaten. As you can tell by that article, I am not a big fan of paper plates and plastic ware. Don’t get me wrong, they have their place in the world of cooking and eating, but most of the time, I prefer to eat with real plates and flatware.
I then wrote an article about a few of some of my favorite kitchen gadgets that I like to use when I cook. They are easy to use and help you to save time and sometimes money. This website is full of videos about kitchen gadgets that you should watch. Not all of them will be worth the money or the time to purchase them. Some of them are videos testing kitchen gadgets and what the chefs say about them and how well they work. Watch some of those. Even I enjoy them. There are some pretty nifty things coming out but you need to know which ones are worth spending your money on and if you will use them enough to be worth the money.
Other things you should know are about measuring your contents of a recipe. I am going to put out a table of measuring terms and how to use them. Mostly measuring spoons and cups are used for this. Sounds easy, however, you have to watch very carefully how much you use of some things or you can really make a mess of your recipes and they won’t come out properly because you either used too much or too little of something. I will also include some substitutions that you can use if you don’t have something that you need when your cooking and baking. Keep watching Donna Kitchen Corner for new articles about cooking. I tell people about this website and when I tell them that I write articles for new cooks most of them know a new cook that needs some guidance and they usually say, “oh my son (or daughter) needs that, I’ll have them look it up”.
It is my greatest wish that new cooks that need help look at my articles and they are helpful to them. No matter how long you cook, there is always something to learn. I’ve been cooking for over 50 years and I’m still learning. So, don’t feel like your alone when you don’t know something. There is always help somewhere, hopefully you will find it here! Happy Cooking!
